Spend some time exploring the variety of shops along West Wyalongs unique and crooked Main Street originally a bullock track woven around gold mines and tree stumps. Good quality country cuisine can be found at one of the many cafes, restaurants and hotels. There is also a full range of accommodation from a 4 star country club resort, quality motels, through to comfortable pub style rooms and two well appointed caravan parks. Several beautiful parks lie within the Shire that offer BBQ and picnic facilities, shaded playgrounds and public toilets.
The Bland area has a rich history with agriculture and mining origins. Gold was discovered by Joseph Neeld in 1893, resulting in the establishment of the twin towns of Wyalong and West Wyalong. Gold in these areas has been reported as some of the most productive in the State.
The Bland Shire has recently experienced its second gold rush with the establishment of the Barrick Australia Cowal Gold Mine. Due to this recent mining investment in addition to several agribusiness initiates such as Pace Farm Eggs, West Wyalong is experiencing a period of growth with positive effects on the local economy.
